The Method

“Finish putting your things in order as soon as you can, so that you can spend the rest of your life surrounded by the people and things that you love most.”
~Marie Kondo, Spark Joy

The KonMari Method™ was named for and designed by Marie Kondo, the bestselling author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.  Kondo, a diligent student of tidying since childhood, was named one of Time Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People” in 2015. Learn more about Marie Kondo and her mission to #organizetheworld at www.konmari.com.

The KonMari Method™ is a simple, easy-to-follow method for tidying, based upon the question “Does this spark joy?”

There are 5 categories:

  1. Clothing
  2. Books
  3. Papers
  4. Komono (miscellany)
  5. Sentimental

Begin by gathering everything in the category in one place.

Pick up each item, hold it in your hands, and ask yourself, “Does this spark joy?”

If it does, keep it, and if not, express your gratitude for the item and discard it. Do this with every item in the category before attempting to put the items that spark joy away.

Complete the categories in order. Finish your own belongings first. Remember you are choosing what to keep and keeping what contributes to your happiness.

A KonMari Consultant offers helpful guidance throughout the tidying process and supports clients in achieving a life that sparks joy.
